The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins fellow citizens and the civil and human rights community in mourning the loss of Ron Scott, a true grass-roots activist on behalf of social justice. Ron Scott was known for his strong advocacy against excessive use of force in policing. He co-founded the Detroit Coalition against Police Brutality, an organization that under the leadership of Ron Scott worked to establish the Peace Zones for Life initiative to build peace and connect community by “restoring the neighbor back to the ‘hood.” He served the community as a tirelessly for many years. Ron will be missed and will be remembered long after his untimely death. AHRC expresses its profound condolences to Mr. Scott’s family, colleagues and friends.

The family of Ron Scott issued this statement (partial):
“We, the family of Ron Scott, are grateful to the outpouring of love and support that we have seen from the Detroit community as well as nationally. Ron was our brother, and we all benefited from his wisdom and love as the led His larger-than-life presence will be missed by us as well as the entire community. Plans for a community-wide memorial will be shared at a later date.er member of the family; but we also know and understand that he belonged to the community as well. The tributes that we have already seen have helped to assuage our sadness at this tremendous loss.”

“Ron was a tireless activist who dedicated many years to the defense and promotion of human rights’ said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. ” The human rights community lost a great leader. We need men like Ron today more than ever,” continued Hamad
