Dear Friends and Supporters of AHRC:

As we bid farewell to the year 2015 and get ready to welcome the year 2016, we are reminded of the many challenges that continue to face humanity. Year 2015 was a year of many serious challenges to human rights. One of the key lessons of the turmoil of 2015 is that a culture of respect and belief in human rights is not a lived reality for everyone yet. Creating this culture of respect for human rights requires our collaborative efforts to defeat hate and extremism while we at the same time ensure the safety, prosperity and security of peaceful and law abiding people.

In 2015 the world experienced a number of heinous terrorist attacks that shocked the conscience of the world. The world saw refugees risking life and limb to live in safety away from killing and starvation. The world witnessed people of good will, of all backgrounds, jumping on the opportunity to make a difference with their generosity. These people of good will recognized that humanity is our common bond and saw the people in need as fellow human beings. We also saw forces of hate and destruction trying to use terror as a wedge issue and divide our societies. In 2015 we were a voice among many who spoke for human rights, reason and unity. We will continue in 2016 to speak against hate and advocate for unity centered on human rights.

We are full of hope that 2016 will see improvements in human rights worldwide. We are confident that improvements will not happen unless the advocates of human rights continue their advocacy. In 2016, we pledge to continue to tirelessly work to promote human rights in the US and abroad. We will continue our advocacy and outreach work in order to help counter the culture of hate with a culture that respects the human rights of every human being regardless of their background. We are able to do our work because of the generosity and support of our friends, volunteers and donors.

In closing, the AHRC family, board and office, extend their sincere appreciation to all of our members, friends, supporters and partners wishing all happy holidays and a blessed new year.

Regards,
Dr. Opada Alzohaili, AHRC President
